REFLECTION

1.Reflect on the process of developing leadership level knowledge, skills, and practices in this competency. What has been especially impactful/meaningful/important to you personally and professionally?

I really enjoyed learning about supervision as a counselor educator. One thing I found very impactful in my doctoral journey was my internship as a supervisor and the opportunity to participate in supervision with practicum and internship students. I really enjoyed the process of learning and tuning up the supervision model and identifying the one I am connected.

  1. Describe an area of strength that you have developed while in the program in this area of competence. What is one way you plan to utilize this strength in your vocation?

One of my strengths with reference to supervision is the fact that I am very compassionate. Many of my students have told me that I am compassionate and provide good feedback. I really feel that my compassion is what makes me a good supervisor because I aim to meet the student/supervisee where they are and help them grow.

  1. Describe an area of challenge/growth opportunity in this area of competency. What is your plan to develop excellence in this area?

One thing I need to work on is my confidence level. I feel that even though I know my supervision model and have heard great feedback from the students, I still feel I need to trust myself in the process of supervision. I will continue to work on my confidence by continuing to provide supervision to other students and supervisees and aim to build my confidence.

  1. Reflect on how faith in Christ relates to this competency.

Supervision is aimed at making those younger in the profession grow. Therefore, when you look at life as a believer one can look at Titus 2 when Paul discusses how the older and wise have to teach the young. Therefore, taking this idea to heart, we are asked to help those newer in our profession grow to eventually replace us, which is why not only do we have to provide proper supervision for the individual to be a counselor in treating clients but also help them establish their professional identity.
